Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a decree establishing a National Health Council, under the chairmanship of Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qattami, Health Minister.
The council shall have as its members two representatives each from the Ministry of Health, the Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Dubai Health Authority, Dubai Health Care City, the medical services sectors of the Interior Ministry, and the armed forces as well as two representatives from the private health sectors. The two are to be selected by the Health Minister.
Coordination
The council shall coordinate between federal and local healthcare establishments and authorities, as well as the private healthcare sector to improve the standards of healthcare services in the country.
It shall also coordinate with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to draw educational policies to study health sciences and medicine inside the UAE and abroad. The two bodies shall also share experiences, work together to boost scientific research and studies, assist health programmes, activities and services in a way that would help achieve the UAE's health policy.
The council shall also help boost cooperation between federal and local health establishments and concerned Arab, regional and international health bodies.
Advisory role
It shall also give advice and express its views on matters related to health insurance nationwide, this will be done in coordination with the concerned bodies, and shall conduct studies on common issues facing the health sector and take the appropriate measures in coordination with the concerned bodies.
It shall also study health sector related draft laws, bylaws, systems and directives and make recommendations to the concerned authorities.
The council shall also coordinate with federal and local establishments to organise conferences, seminars and workshops to ensure achievement of the targets.
