Dubai: A senior traffic official has urged motorists to be calm and control their temper during the scorching heat and not fall prey to road rage.
The appeal came after five people were killed and one man was seriously injured in separate road accidents during the past two days.
Salah Bu Farousha, Head of Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution, said during the summer, motorists tend to lose concentration and speed dangerously to reach their destination and escape the sun and heat.
"They endanger their own lives and the lives of others," he said.
Four deaths
"We expect that road accidents during the scorching heat of summer to increase as many drivers do not pay attention on the roads because of the heat and speed to reach their destinations fast. We ask them to cool down and control their temper while they are on the roads to avoid accidents," he said.
Police reported four deaths on a single day yesterday in separate accidents in the early hours.
A day before, on Thursday afternoon, a worker was killed after he fell from his company's moving bus on Al Khail Road after Business Bay bridge.
Bu Farousha said the reason could be recklessness on the part of the bus driver who controls the opening and closing of the bus doors. He said investigations are being done to find out who was responsible. The driver meanwhile is out on bail.
Another man sustained serious injuries when a car ran over him on Al Seef Road on Thursday night.
