Kandahar: At least 20 Taliban fighters were killed in separate clashes with US-led forces and Afghan police, backed by air support, officials said on Sunday.

A US military statement said its forces killed more than 10 insurgents during an operation in the southeast province of Khost on Saturday, and did not mention any casualties on its side.

Another 10 men were killed in a militant assault on a police post in Helmand, provincial police chief Mohammad Hussein Andiwal said. Four police were wounded defending their post.

The Taliban could not be reached immediately for comment.

Separately on Sunday, a suicide bomber killed himself in an attack on a Nato convoy in the western province of Herat, but there were no other casualties, according to witnesses.
