The Dubai Festival City announced plans to build a multi-billion dirham golf course community as part of its large-scale, mixed-use development. The project, which includes a Dh500 million 18-hole recreational course and 200 units of residential development with associated facilities, is currently under way and will open by the end of 2003. After a feasibility study on the golf course market, conducted by International Management Group (IMG), Al Futtaim, developer of Dubai Festival City, is finalising negotiations with Al Naboodah Contracting for the construction of the course.
"We are proud to continue the progression of the vision of General Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Defence Minister, by addition of a world-class golf course community that will further strengthen Dubai's image as a tourist destination," said Omar Al Futtaim, chief executive of Al Futtaim Group. Dubai Festival City, a 'city within a city', is being developed along the Dubai Creek at the base of Garhoud Bridge, on a 1,200 acre site by Al Futtaim Investments.
