The U.S. wants to attack Iraq in the wake of September 11 simply to regain dignity, according to a senior jurist. Dr Mohammed Abdullah Al Rokn, Chairman of the UAE Ju-rists' Association, highlighted the fallout of September 11. He was speaking at a lecture on Wednesday on the anticipated U.S. strike on Iraq and its effects on the Palestinian cause at the hall of the Fujairah Office of the Ministry of Information and Culture. It was organised by the Fujairah Cultural and Social Association. Dr Al Rokn said the U.S. was furious after the terror attacks and wants to avenge the deaths. He said: "The U.S. wants to link Iraq with the Al Qaida to justify the strike to the world and retain dignity among the American people."
"The U.S. has given itself the legal right to change the regime of certain countries like Panama, Chile and Afghanistan. "One of the reasons which the U.S. is giving to justify its strike against Iraq is that latter has not carried out decisions of the UN. It says Iraq still has weapons of mass destruction which it will use against the U.S. and neighbours." The U.S. claims that the Iraqi regime is dictatorial and violates human rights. But there are personal reasons as well: U.S. President George W. Bush has claimed that Saddam Hussain once tried to kill his father. "There are three real reasons for the anticipated strike on Iraq: ideological, economic and to serve Israel." There is a group called the new conservatives in the U.S. which wants to establish the U.S. as an empire that can rule the world. The new conservatives have formed a special committee called The Committee of the Project of the New American Century to talk about the U.S.' new policy in the 21st century. These conservatives, Dr Al Rokn said, are present in U.S. presidential team. "September 11 has accelerated the execution of this plan, aiming to enable the U.S. to dominate the world by increasing its military budget, having permanent headquarters in different parts of the world and to play the role of world policeman." Dr Al Rokn said the real economic reason behind the anticipated strike on Iraq is to dominate Iraqi oil resources as well as oil resources in the Middle East. He said the U.S.' imports of oil from GCC countries and Iraq reached to 2.7 million barrels a day in 2001, which equals 30 per cent of its total import of oil. "In 2020, the U.S. will import two-thirds of its total requirements of oil from different countries, and half of this two-thirds will be from the Gulf region." By establishing supremacy on Iraq, it will be assured of oil reserves which have reached 112 billion barrels. He said the strike on Iraq will also benefit Israel because it will weaken Arab countries. "The strike will not be a struggle between different civilisations, but a struggle in our Islamic civilisation. "They want to divide the world into countries that support America or are against it," he said. "The strike on Iraq will be a strike on our Islamic values and virtues, and we have to concentrate on solving the Palestinian problem and not forget it."
