"The new interchange near Dubai Marina, known as Fifth Interchange on Shaikh Zayed Road, will be built within 20 months at a cost of Dh262 million," said Engineer Mattar Al Tayer, Deputy Director of Dubai Municipality.
He said Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance and Industry has approved projects worth more than Dh285 million, including a new interchange. "This vital project is part of a series of road projects currently undertaken by Dubai Municipality in an attempt to smoothen traffic flow in the city. The new interchange will easily accommodate existing and projected vehicular traffic in the area where a lot of major development projects are coming up such as the Dubai Marina, Palm Jumeirah, Lakes Towers, Emirates Golf Club and many more," he said. Al Tayer added that the project would involve a number of bridges to ease traffic flow from all directions and service roads to surrounding areas. It also involves widening of the Shaikh Zayed Road into five lanes on both directions with an additional lane from Dubai Marina interchange to the Jumeirah Lakes Interchange. The Technical Committee of the Municipality, he said, also approved several landscaping and waste management projects worth Dh23.7 million which will be undertaken within a period of one year.
