Six out of the 13 lanes of the bridge over Dubai Creek were opened on Tuesday, while the rest will be ready within a few months. It is the third bridge over the Creek.
His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai yesterday inaugurated the bridge and the new road network.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Maitha Obaid Bin Udai, Chief Executive Officer of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the RTA and a number of other senior officials were present at the opening ceremony.
The Business Bay Crossing is located some 1.5km south of Al Garhoud Bridge near Festival City and will provide a new road corridor to motorists travelling between Bur Dubai and Deira and to Sharjah, in addition to the Emirates Road and Shaikh Zayed Road.
The bridge was partially opened to traffic last night. It will be fully operational in a few months' time.
The total length of the comprehensive road network is 15km and it will connect the Dubai Airport Tunnel with the First Interchange on Shaikh Zayed Road.
A 9-km stretch of the road from the Airport Tunnel to Oud Metha Road was opened yesterday.
"It is the first bridge in Dubai which will provide free movement of vessels in the creek round-the-clock and will not be closed at night unlike the existing Al Garhoud and Al Maktoum bridges over Dubai Creek," said an official at the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). Two more bridges are under construction

It is very satisfying to see such projects being completed. In many countries authorities simply talk about plans without delivering the actual product. Fawzi Dubai,UAE
