Dubai: The first phase of Meydan City development has sold out. Meydan City, located on the Dubai-Al Ain Road adjacent to Dubai Properties (Business Bay), will be in the heart of Dubai's burgeoning new urban frontier and in close proximity to Meydan Racecourse.

The Meydan City and Racecourse development was launched on the eve of the 2007 Dubai World Cup last month.

Only seven kilometres from Dubai International Airport and a five-minute drive from Shaikh Zayed Road, Burj Dubai and Dubai Festival City, Meydan City covers more than 40 million square feet of gross floor area on about 15 million square feet of land.

Meydan Chairman Saeed H. Al Tayer said: "Meydan City has been snapped up quickly by investors who realise the vast potential of its location.

"With its strategic positioning as the future inner city of Dubai, coupled with its lush greenery and waterways and its proximity to Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary, it's no surprise as to just how popular the development has already become."

The plots within the self-contained community boast canal, waterfront and promenade views.

Berthing facilities

The centrepiece, Meydan Marina, will be located at the core of the development and will offer berthing facilities for more than 80 luxury yachts and boats.

A tramline is included in the plans. It will run from Meydan City to Meydan Racecourse and carry about 10,000 people every hour.

Meydan Racecourse will open for the 2010 Dubai World Cup meeting and will span 76 million square feet.
