Dubai: Residents of the Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) have been asked to register for the Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the pioneering district cooling provider, to use its services, a company statement said.
Through a client registration process - currently under way at the JBR sales centre - each district cooling service registered tenant at JBR will be billed separately, just like any other utility service.
Prominent clusters
Samer Khoudeir, director of Sales and Marketing of Empower, said: "Empower provides safe, reliable and environmentally friendly energy. This saves commercial space, helps ease extra demand on local power utilities, by providing better fuel flexibility, and reduces air pollution.
"For the first time tenants of JBR, and quite soon those in other residential buildings, will enjoy cost benefits from substantially lower electricity usage and reduced maintenance."
District cooling systems have a power consumption of about 0.9 to 1 KW/tonne as against to 1.5 to 1.7 KW/tonne for traditional air cooled chillers and split/packaged units. The capital cost for individual buildings is substantially reduced as major equipment like chillers are no longer required. Moreover, maintenance and operational costs for individual buildings are considerably lower because of the centralised system.
Empower is providing 60,000 refrigeration tonnes to Jumeirah Beach Residence, the impressive 22 million square feet development spanning 1.7km, featuring 36 residential towers, four hotel towers and beach clubs.
Empower currently handles projects for several prominent clusters in Dubai. These include the dynamic new financial district DIFC, Dubai Healthcare City, City of Arabia and the Business Bay.
Empower is a joint venture between Tecom Investments and Dewa, created to provide energy-efficient district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments.
