Dubai: The Ajman Cricket Council will build a lush green cricket stadium soon.
Ali Abdullah Alwan, the Director General of Ajman Police, who has been appointed as the President of the Ajman Cricket Council, said: "Everything will be done to ensure that Ajman gets a cricket stadium. We are very keen and are working towards building an excellent stadium."
The Ajman Council's cricket matches are currently being held on the seven cement grounds located in Al Jarf. Many clubs use these grounds for practice as well as to host tournaments. The popular Dr Sunny Medical Centre AKCC tournament is also staged here.
The Ajman Council has been formed under the patronage of Shaikh Abdul Aziz Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi.
The Council honoured all the winners and runners up of their tournaments this year at the annual award function at the India Club on Sunday night.
Special awards were given to cricketers who produced outstanding performances this year.
Shaji Ul Mulk, the secretary general of the Ajman Council, said that Ajman has become a popular cricket centre and that the council is keen to provide the best facilities for not only the players but also the umpires.
"We have set up an umpires committee under UAE's international umpire Farid Malik to provide better incentives for the umpires and boost umpiring standards."
The function was attended by Mazhar Khan, Administrator of the Emirates Cricket Board, who expressed his delight at the contribution of Ajman council for the promotion of the game.

Honour
Lifetime award for Shyam Bhatia The Ajman Cricket Council honoured cricket enthusiast and businessman Shyam Bhatia with the Lifetime Contribution Award.
Bhatia had donated the proceedings from his book 'Portrait of the Game' for the promotion of the game around the world. He has encouraged cricketers here through the Bhatia annual awards.
Bhatia announced that the Ajman Council's tournament performances will also be considered for the next annual awards.
