Washington: Al Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden, in an audio message released on Thursday, urged Muslims to "carry out jihad" or holy war against Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf, a US ally in the war on terrorism.

The audio message contains a translation of Bin Laden’s message into Pashto. The tape also has English and Arabic subtitles, prompting terror analysts to think that Al Qaida is looking at a wider audience.

In the tape, Bin Laden cites several fatwas from clerics to justify action against Musharraf.

Bin Laden vows that Al Qaida "will retaliate for the blood of Maulana Abd Al Rashid Ghazi", the Red Mosque head cleric who was killed during a military assault last July.

Bin Laden’s warning comes at a time when Musharraf is hoping to secure a third term as Pakistan’s president despite a major loss in popularity.
