Las Vegas: Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao beat Mexico’s Marco Antonio Barrera in their super featherweight clash in Las Vegas on Saturday (Sunday in the UAE).
Pacquiao (45 wins, 3 losses, 35 KOs) scored a unanimous 12-round decision over the 33-year-old Barrera, who claimed the fight is his last big-time bout.
"I always believed I could beat him," said Pacquiao, who retained his WBC International championship title with the win.
Two judges scored the fight 118-109 for Pacquiao and the other scored it 115-112. It was a rematch of their 2003 bout, which the 28-year-old Pacquiao also won.
"I am satisfied. I tried to give a good fight," Pacquiao said. "I had to be careful because he is still a good fighter and not an easy opponent."
Barrera suffered a cut to his right cheek in the 11th round. He also had a one point deduction for throwing a right hand at Pacquiao during a break in the action.
"It was hard. He had a strong defence," Barrera said.
