Abu Dhabi: Residents can enjoy a new fleet of 287 buses to travel inside and between Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western region in the emirate from the second quarter of next year.

"The move is a part of first stage of Abu Dhabi comprehensive public transportation plan and designed to provide public transport service at reasonable prices in the urban centres and suburbs of the emirate," said Engineer Khalid Abdullah Al Marzouqi, General Manager of Public Transport in Abu Dhabi.

The Department of Transport (DOT) has invited specialised companies to bid for the procurement and operation of 287 buses.

Allocation and operation

DOT will examine the bids in December and award the contract before the year-end for the gradual allocation and operation of the buses on five different road groups.

The department is focussing on suitable branding options for the new fleet of buses.
