Kuala Lumpur: A Malaysian court on Monday freed three ethnic Indian activists from charges of sedition, a day after they organised a massive street protest in the city. Hundreds of supporters gathered outside the courtroom as the court ordered the three to be discharged on Monday.
The activists, leaders of the Hindu Rights Action Force, were detained Friday and charged with making seditious speech against the government.
More than 5,000 people joined street protests in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday to protest what they said was government discrimination against minority ethnic Indians.
The protest turned violent, with protestors hurling stones and bricks at riot police, who also fought back with tear gas and water cannons. More than 130 protesters were detained.
