Manila: Several military officers took control of a five star hotel in the Philippines and demanded the resignation of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
The men, who had been standing trial for a failed coup, stormed out of the court to make their protest.
They have been given until 3pm to give themselves up.
The officers were joined at the Manila Peninsula hotel. by other officers, opposition leaders and two Catholic bishops.
Military police did not prevent them from leaving the court.
Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim, who joined the protest later, issued a statement urging Arroyo to resign and asking the armed forces to withdraw support for her.
Arroyo has called an emergency cabinet meeting, while the army has been ordered to arrest the men.
Defence Secretary Gilbert Teodoro said. "We want to assure our people that we will apply the full force of the law to maintain peace and order in the area and the rest of the country."
