Sharjah: Motorists who have incurred parking fines in Sharjah can check them online from February 1.
The new online facility will coincide with a new fully automated parking ticket system that will also become operational at the time. This has been implemented at a cost of Dh2 million.
"Motorists who want to extend their parking durations will simply need to send a text message to the control room section of Sharjah Municipality.
"In our future plans it will also allow GCC motorists who have got parking violations to check them online. The new system allows traffic wardens to issue fines within seconds and synchronise the issuance seamlessly with Sharjah Police Traffic Department, delivering faster, more efficient results to Sharjah residents and visitors," said Abdul Rahman Ahmad Al Mahmoud, Head of Transport and Freight department at the Municipality.
Parking space
He said that the project is divided into two phases. "The first phase will cover 90 per cent of the parking space in Sharjah and will include 150 parking devices. The new systems stands to revolutionise the existing procedure, where traffic wardens take up to three minutes to issue a ticket."
He said that wardens will be issued with a Motorola MC70 handheld computer and a Zebra MZ220 printer, where they can monitor parking tickets by scanning the barcode on the parking card to see if the ticket is still valid.
"In case of ticket expiry, the warden can issue a parking fine on the spot. The newly proposed solution from Barcode Gulf does away with handwriting," said Al Mahmoud.
"The system will monitor short term and long term parking. Traffic wardens will use the new devices to inspect all parking spaces in Sharjah," he added.
Motorola Enterprise Mobility's Middle East Reg-ional Channel Manager, Tarek Hassaniyeh, said: "Motorola enterprise mobility solutions help customers in a broad range of industries to improve business operations throughout an organisation.
"Focused on meeting cust-omer demands, our new product offerings combine innovative design and technologies for connectivity, manageability and real-time access to business-critical information."
