Beirut: Arab League chief Amr Mousa hinted at growing impatience with Lebanon’s political leaders on Thursday, on the second day of a visit aimed at selling an Arab solution to its months-old political crisis.
Amr Mousa said earlier on Thursday he was hopeful he could clinch a deal between rival Lebanese leaders to end a political crisis which has left the country with no president since November.
However, following a round of meetings with political and religious leaders, Mousa said, “The solution does not need a miracle.”
He added, “There is an agreement on the name of the president. It is not normal that the conflict on the ways to elect him continues.”
Lebanon has been without a president since November 23, when Emile Lahoud stepped down with no successor in place amid a bitter power struggle between the Western-backed government and the Hezbollah-led opposition, supported by Syria and Iran.
