Dubai: Water-logged Dubai saw more road traffic accidents, and slips and falls related to heavy rain, which has fallen non-stop since Monday evening.
According to Rashid Hospital Trauma Centre records, rain-related cases started coming in at about 2am. Up to 2pm yesterday, 29 people from 22 road traffic accidents had been brought in.
Dr Zidan Eisa, emergency physician at the centre, told Gulf News most of the cases were minor.
The only severe case the centre received involved a 75-year-old man involved in a traffic accident. Other cases the centre received included five cars hitting pedestrians, probably caused by poor visibility due to the rain, six cars flipping over and 18 collisions.
The centre also received more home-based accidents related to the rain.
Mohammad Assad, a 27-year-old Emirati narrowly missed being paralysed when he slipped and fell from his sloped roof and fractured his spine.
"I was trying to check my roof for leaks," he told Gulf News.
