Dubai: A underwater cable in the Arabian Gulf was reportedly cut on Friday and du was forced to reroute its international voice calls through Etisalat, a statement from du said.
The recent damage affected all international calls through the du network, it said. National calls, national SMS and internet access were not affected, it said.
“du has been informed a few hours ago of a new incident on the Flag Falcon cable, where a new cable was cut within the Arabian Gulf. The cause of damage and exact location have not yet been identified,” the statement said.
Flag, a wholly-owned subsidiary of India's number two mobile operator Reliance Communications , said in a statement on its Web site its Falcon cable had been reported cut at 0559 GMT, 56 km from Dubai on a segment between the UAE and Oman.
The new incident follows internet access problems in the UAE starting on Tuesday.
In the first incident it was found that submarine cables of Flag Europe-Asia and Sea-ME-We4, lying approximately 12 kms from Alexandria had been cut by a ship dragging its anchor.
There was no immediate response from etisalat over the new incident.
