Dubai: A disruption in internet and phone services across the region due to snapped undersea cables should be resolved by the the end of this week, officials said on Sunday.

UAE telecom operator du said its internet and calling services had been restored to near normal capacity as of Saturday morning, as traffic was re-routed through etisalat and other service providers.

In a separate statement, etisalat said it had also regained most of its internet services. Etisalat's call services were not affected by the cuts.

The operators said according to information from Flag Telecom, the submarine cable operator running the Gulf cable, the problem should be resolved in "two weeks from the start of the disruptions".

The cable off the coast of Alexandria, operated by the South East Asia-Middle East-West Europe 4 should be repaired by February 8, etisalat said.
