Abu Dhabi: The UAE participates in the UN Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking out of its commitment to combat transnational human trafficking, a top official said on Wednesday.
"Our participation in this global initiative will help us expand our activities internationally, which is important to curb the problem of human trafficking at its roots," said Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs and head of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking [NCCHT].
He was speaking after a committee meeting held at the presidential palace on Wednesday.
The meeting discussed preparations by the UAE for its participation at the UN Vienna Forum on Human Trafficking. The minister will deliver a keynote speech at the forum which will be held from February 13 to 15 in Vienna.
The committee meeting, Dr Gargash said, reiterated the four-pronged strategy to combat human trafficking which involves stronger legislation, focused training for law enforcement officials, providing support to victims and promoting international cooperation.
