Kuwait City: Shiite Member of Parliament Adnan Abdul Samad denied that slain Hezbollah commander Emad Mughnieh was involved in the hijacking of Kuwaiti Airways flight in 1988.

Talking to a large crowd of Shiites gathered under tight security supervision to mourn the death, Abdul Samad labelled Mughnieh "a martyr" and "a hero".

The crowd chanted slogans "Death to the United States", "Death to Israel", and "All Muslims must unite. No Sunnis, No Shiites". Shiite MP Ahmad Lari and ex-MP Abdul Mohsen Jamal also attended the gathering.

On remarks by Interior Minister Shaikh Khalid Al Sabah to a local paper in which he accused Mughnieh of being accountable for the hijack, Abdul Samad said these are "baseless".
