Abu Dhabi: The UAE's efforts to combat human trafficking are motivating and supporting international efforts in the region against this crime, a top official said.
The procedures taken by the country include legislations, implementation, supporting victims and holding agreements and cooperation with the international community, said Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking.
Gargash received Norwegian Ambassador Anne Rikter Svendsen and they discussed the UAE's efforts against human trafficking.
Gargash highlighted the recent decision by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Red Crescent Authority (RCA), to set up shelters for women and children who are victims of the crime.
He described the RCA's plan as an important and encouraging development.
"The UAE suffers from this issue like all other developing countries, but we are determined to fight this crime through a knowledgeable and comprehensive policy. The real shame is not the existence of the crime, but the lack of action to combat it," Gargash said.
