Kabul: Raids and clashes in southern Afghanistan over the weekend left dozens of Taliban fighters killed and wounded, while a Canadian soldier died in a roadside blast, military officials said.
A fight between the US-led coalition troops and a Taliban commander in Garmser district has left several insurgents killed on Sunday. Another clash with militants in Helmand's Sangin district led to 20 casualties, according to a Defense Ministry statement.
Separately, a Canadian soldier was killed by a roadside bomb west of Kandahar city. Canada has deployed about 2,500 soldiers to fight the Taliban in the volatile south.
