London: British Prime Minister has condemned a decision to discourage RAF personnel from wearing uniform in public because of fears of being verbally abused by people opposed to the Iraq and Afghan wars.
He said that armed forces members should be "encouraged to wear their uniform in public and have the respect and gratitude of the British people".
Brown’s comments came after the station commander at RAF Wittering asked his staff not to wear uniform outside of the base.
It had been claimed that some members of the public had verbally abused some RAF personnel.
However it is believed to have been from a small minority of people and police have no records of any complaints being made.
