Beijing: The Olympic torch relay will continue despite protests, the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said on Thursday.
Jacques Rogge, however, said that organisers will reconsider holding such international relays for future Olympic Games in September at the end of the Beijing Olympics.
"We are studying together with [organisers] to improve the torch relay, but there is no scenario of either interrupting or bringing [the torch] back directly to Beijing," Rogge said.
Some IOC members have suggested doing away with future relays.
Rogge spoke as the torch was on its way to Argentina, after making its only US stop in San Francisco, where officials shortened the torch's route to avoid protesters.
