Bangkok: Security was tight in Thailand’s capital of Bangkok on Friday as it received the Olympic torch.
Police said they were ready to stop any attempt by anti-China activists to put out the flame. "We will not tolerate any violent or illegal protests," Thai General Yuthasak Sasiprapa said.
Yuthasak said short-cuts and alternative torch relay routes had been made ready in case of any "unexpected incidents". Police will also accompany torch runners.
On Thursday, India deployed 15,000 police to guard the torch relay from protesters composed of a large community of exiled Tibetans.
