Karachi: The $3 million defamation lawsuit against banned Pakistani speedster, Shoaib Akhtar has been dropped, his lawyer said on Monday.

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf filed the lawsuit in a civil court following remarks made by Akhtar in an interview after his ban.

Ashraf withdrew the suit after Akhtar’s unconditional apology at his appeal hearing last month.

Lawyer Tafazzul Rizvi said the bowler also personally apologised to the PCB chairman and asked for forgiveness.

Rizvi said the lawsuit was dropped because “the honour and dignity of the PCB chairman stand vindicated”.

The board lifted the five-year ban against Akhtar for one month allowing him to play in the Indian Premier League.
