Dubai: A review system for umpires' decisions will be trialled in a Test series this year.

The series where the trial will take place has not been announced yet, but it has been decided players will be permitted to ask the on-field umpire to review any aspect of their decision in consultation with the third umpire. Each team will be limited to a maximum of three unsuccessful referrals per innings.

It has also been decided that umpires should still be permitted to refer line decisions without a player's request.

The two-day ICC Cricket Committee meeting, under the chairmanship of former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar, has made the recommendation to the Chief Executive Committee (CEC) for approval.

It also recommended that Hawk Eye technology could be used by the third umpire, but only for the purposes of determining the actual path of the ball up until the point that it strikes the batsman and not to predict where the ball might go.

The committee also decided that Test cricket should remain the pinnacle of the sport and stressed the need for a balance between all three formats of the game.

The bowl-out in the event of a tie in the ICC World Twenty20 or ICC Champions Trophy should be replaced by a one-over per team play-off, it proposed.
