Dubai: The Dubai Shopping Festival Office on Wednesday unveiled the Calendar of Events for the upcoming Dubai Summer Surprises 2008, which is scheduled to run from June 19 and go on till August 22.
Ibrahim Saleh, General Coordinator of DSF Office emphasised the innovative nature of events for this year.
“The Calendar of Events for DSS 2008 is the single result of dedicated team efforts over the past three months. We have ensured that the events are diversified, innovative, and appealing to every visitor segment,” he said.
“Visitors and residents in Dubai will definitely feel the change as we have planned something new every other day. We are embracing new international events in addition to developing our Signature events to enhance the festivities this summer,” he added
The theme of activities this year will change almost every other day and not be a ‘Surprise’ every week. The idea is called ‘Tens of Surprises.’
“The outcome is guaranteed to surpass all previous Surprises organised during DSS and with a new event presented almost every day, it is non-stop entertainment assured,” officials said.
Laila Suhail, chief executive of DSS says the main reason for the success of DSS is ‘Dubai’, which has become a brand name.
“The event was launched with the objective to boost tourism and economy. In 1998, Dubai had a good number of malls which used to be empty during the summer. The trend has now been changed. We have converted the summer season to the shopping season,” she said.
