Dubai: As part of its efforts to widen and develop the public transport network in Dubai, the Public Transport Agency will be launching two new bus routes on Saturday linking International City and other parts of Dubai, the The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced.
Eisa Abdul Rahman Al Dossary, CEO of the RTA Public Transport Agency, said the RTA is always keen to provide the best services to customers by deploying highly sophisticated buses, recently imported by the RTA from the world's best bus manufacturers.
These buses are characterised by the highest levels of comfort and security, benchmarked against best global standards.
"The first new route, 330, will set off from Silicon Valley to International City and vice versa, travelling via the Outsource Zone and Knowledge Village. The service will operate at 15 minute intervals from Saturday to Thursday, and 20 minute intervals on Fridays and public holidays. The first bus will leave at 5am and the last bus is at 11pm," he said.
"The second line, X23, will travel from Al Nahda to International City and vice versa via Naif Road, Al Shindagha Tunnel, Khalid Bin Al Waleed Road, Ras Al Khor and Al Manama Road. The service will be operated at 10 minute intervals from Saturday to Thursday, and 20 minute intervals on Fridays and public holidays. The service will kick off at 5am and end at 11pm."
He said buses designated to operate on these two lines are of high technical specifications and fitted with environmentally friendly Euro IV engines and the unique transmission I-Shift system, along with advanced braking and stability systems. This will make travelling a convenient and safe exercise for passengers. The buses are equipped with all security and safety devices and have places reserved for people with special needs.
Al Dossary said the interiors of buses on these two routes are safe, spacious and convenient.
"They fit in well with the progress enjoyed by the UAE in general and Dubai in particular in all fields, particularly tourism, which has become a key feature of the emirate of Dubai. Already the city is a leading commercial and economic hub in the region and a point of attraction for investors and businessmen from various parts of the globe.
"Offering this service is part of the strategic plan of the RTA to uplift mass transit modes in Dubai and attract more commuters with a view to easing road congestion. The RTA is keen to widen its service and boost the share of mass transit to 30 per cent of personal trips. This can be achieved by providing top quality and affordable transport alternatives, with wide geographical coverage and capable of competing with private vehicles.
"This step is viewed as a quality addition capable of upgrading services levels to the increasing number of commuters in the areas, triggered by the huge urban growth witnessed by the emirate. Moreover, they will contribute to better traffic flow, and this will undoubtedly ease traffic congestion."
