Dhaka: Detained former Bangladesh Prime Minister Shaikh Hasina can travel to seek treatment, Bangladeshi courts ruled on Monday, adding that her trial can continue in her absence.
An official for Hasina’s Awami League said all obstacles to her travel had been removed and they were discussing when she will take the journey.
A government-appointed medical board suggested Hasina travel for medical treatment immediately. On Sunday, Hasina requested the courts to allow her lawyers to represent her.
Her lawyers told reporters that Special Court Judge Mohammad Feroze Alam accepted her plea and said she could be represented by lawyers at her trial.
Party member said Hasina could be leaving shortly for Canada en route to the United States to seek treatment.
The chief metropolitan magistrate's court has asked the government to return Hasina's passport.
