Tokyo: The Japanese government on Monday said it is considering tightening restrictions on knives after a deadly stabbing rampage in the capital, an official said.
At least seven people were killed on Sunday after a man went on a stabbing spree in Tokyo's Akihabara district. Nearly a dozen people were also wounded in the attack.
Police have arrested the suspect, 25-year-old Tomohiro Kato, who said he was "tired of living".
"We need to think of the possibility of discussing tightening the control of guns and knives," Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura said.
Stabbing attacks have become more frequent in Japan in recent years. In March, a man stabbed one person to death and injured seven others outside a shopping mall in Japan.
