Istanbul: Jet Airways will start daily direct flights to Dubai from New Delhi and Mumbai by next month.
India's largest private airline also hopes to start flights to Jeddah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, pending clearance from authorities.
The Dubai route comes on the heels of Jet launching daily direct flights to Abu Dhabi from Mumbai and Delhi from April 23.
Jet Airways, which launched its operations in the Gulf region last January, also flies to Kuwait, Bahrain, Muscat and Doha.
US flight
Speaking on the sidelines of the 64th annual general meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Naresh Goyal, chairman of Jet Airways, also revealed that his airline will fly daily from Mumbai to San Francisco via Shanghai from June 14. He expressed happiness with the success of Jet's Brussels hub, which he said was growing from strength to strength.
Pact
Jet Airways and Malaysia Airlines have also worked out a code-share arrangement for flights between Malaysia and India. The details are being finalised, he added.
On the grim outlook for low-cost carriers, Goyal pointed out that infrastructure was the key and not just infrastructure.
"We need special airports to sustain low-cost carriers, which cannot afford to pay the same airport charges that large carriers do," Goyal said, citing the development of the new airport in Jebel Ali as a step in the right direction.
Goyal said surging fuel prices have not affected Jet Airway's route or fleet expansion plans.
