Dubai: Dubai will step up crackdown on people dealing in counterfeit goods, the Dubai Customs chief warned on Monday.

“Dubai is not your type of place. We will fight you and we will punish you heavily,” Dubai Customs director-general Ahmad Butti Ahmad said in warning to those peddling pirated products.

Dubai Customs is stepping up cooperation with its counterparts in other places to tackle fake goods getting into the country.

There are around 1,000 inspectors employed in Dubai’s fight in the illegal trade.

Last year 40 raids were conducted by Dubai Customs on onshore and free zone businesses suspected of dealing in pirated goods.
