Dubai: With prices of basic commodities skyrocketing, consumers seek more value for their money, which usually means looking for cheaper alternatives for products or services.

According to the latest consumer price index released by the UAE Ministry of Economy, a kilo of Oman Robian (big) has peaked at Dh47.90 in LuLu Centre, but is also available for as low as Dh42.90 in Carrefour.
Fresh boneless beef from Australia costs Dh18.90 per kilo in LuLu Centre, while Carrefour is selling it for Dh19.90.
Discrepancies
A 10-kilo bag of basmati rice (No.1) from Pakistan is priced Dh45.50 in Lulu Centre, while Carrefour offers it for Dh30.50.
Vegetarians are a little bit luckier as prices of some vegetables have dropped.
The price of Jordan tomatoes at Carrefour Sharjah has dropped from Dh2.95 per kilo to Dh2.45.
The Sharjah Cooperative Society offers the same tomatoes for Dh2 per kilo from a high of Dh3.25 two weeks ago.
Prices for dry onions (red) from India slightly fell in Carrefour Ras Al Khaimah from Dh1.95 per kilo to Dh1.90, and in Ras Al Khaimah Cooperative Society from Dh2 per kilo to Dh1.50.
The data released by the ministry shows that Carrefour is this week's top pick among the other retailers.
The commodities prices covered 40 products.
