The data released by the Ministry of Economy (MoE) show that the prices of most basic commodities have increased, particularly meat, fish and milk.

According to the ministry's latest consumer price index, a kilogram of whole local Kanaad fish is sold at Carrefour Dubai for Dh39.90, whereas it was Dh33.90 last month - an increase of Dh6. LuLu Centre Dubai, however, sells the same fish variety for Dh29.90, down from Dh31.90.

Anchor milk powder, also locally sourced in the UAE, which was Dh59.95 per 2.5 kilogram, is now sold in the market for as high as Dh65.20, which shows a rise of more than Dh5. The Lacnor full cream milk (long life) also went up to Dh3.50 per one litre from Dh2.90.

The prices of many other essential goods have likewise gone up, while the figures of basic commodities for the rest of the stores covered by the ministry's weekly survey were not available. The Ministry of Economy collated the prices last Monday and covered around 42 commodities.
