Dubai: With prices of basic commodities skyrocketing constantly, consumers need to continuing tightening their grocery budgets, spend wisely and look for more value for their money, which usually means looking for cheaper alternatives to any product or services.

From data released by the Ministry of Economy (MoE), it has been observed that prices of most basic commodities have again increased, particularly among for essential goods.
According to the MoE's latest consumer price index, a kilo of local Kanaad whole fish sold in Carre-four has reached Dh33.90, while LuLu Centre Dubai offers the same item for Dh29.90. A kilo of whole salmon imported from Norway, however, sells in Carrefour for Dh39.90, the same as last month's price.
Ankor powdered milk, locally sourced in the UAE, sells in Carrefour for as high as Dh65.20 per 2.5-kilo, while Union Cooperative Society sells the milk for Dh57.90.
The prices of most essential goods have increased. Prices of basic commodities in other stores covered by the ministry's weekly survey, however, were not available. LuLu Centre emerges as this week's top pick with the best prices among retailers.
