Dubai: The price of basic commodities remained high in the first half of 2008, with little change in the trend according to the latest data released by the Ministry of Economy (MoE).
The data covered around 44 commodities ranging from fruits and vegetables, mea, fish and milks to cleaning materials.

The price of fresh milk remained high at Dh10 for two litres at local supermarkets in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, while the price of locally packed sugar remained the same at the LuLu Centre, Carrefour and Union Co-operative Society at Dh2.90, Dh4.35 and Dh3.50 respectively, according to the report.
Likewise, there was little change or decrease in the prices of other essential materials such as white flour, rice, eggs or cheese, according to the latest report of the Ministry.
While there was a Dh4 increase in the price of fish last month, there was no information on the latest prices in the most recent data available.
Vegetables
There was a slight increase in the price of onions imported from India while potatoes, which were brought in from Saudi Arabia, have decreased in cost slightly.
The prices of many other essential goods have not changed much.
Figures of basic commodities for the rest of the stores which are covered by the Ministry's weekly survey, however, were not available.
