Dubai: A top government official yesterday warned cement manufacturers of prompt action against those trying to distabilise the market.

The Ministry of Economy (MoE) had earlier fixed the price of cement at Dh17 per 50-kg bag.

Mohammad Ahmad Abdul Aziz Al Shehi, undersecretary at the MoE, said, all cement manufacturers in the UAE have abided by the fixed price.

Prompt action will however be taken against all manufacturers who don't comply with the ministry's regulatory decision which aims at stabilising the cement market as well as regulate the cost of construction in the country.

The ministry, he added, will be taking a number of initiatives to boost cement supply to the local market by urging companies to directly import cement.
