Dubai: Nakheel Marinas, the new division of Nakheel created to provide marinas and amenities, has revealed plans to create thousands of berths for a full range of vessels to meet the rapidly increasing demand in the region.
Nakheel said it is working exclusively with Island Global Yachting (IGY), the premier owner, developer, and manager of marina properties and yachting lifestyle destinations, who will design, deliver, and manage the marinas on all of Nakheel's waterfront developments.
The two companies are working hand in hand on extensive plans for the formation of a coastal network of luxury marina destinations across Dubai, linking all of Nakheel's waterfront developments.
These plans include the creation of mega-yacht facilities and luxury marinas on The Palm islands, Waterfront, and The World. Initial projects revealed include Anchor Marina and Mega Yacht Marina, both located at The Palm Jumeirah.
In addition, there will be seven large marinas on The Palm Deira, the first of which will provide 300 wet berths and 200 on dry stack. Two out of the seven of these marinas will provide facilities to accommodate super yachts.
Saeed Hareb, director of Nakheel Marinas, said: "Nakheel's vision is to create a standard of marinas viewed as being, at least, comparable with the best in the world. In Island Global Yachting we have a best of breed partner which will enable us to fulfil and even exceed this vision.
"We are excited about the future possibilities that our waterfront developments hold for marina development and we intend to provide the highest quality of facilities for our marinas. Our aim is to create one of the most important destinations for charter boats or visitor boats anywhere in the world through our extensive marina network across Dubai's coastline."
The Mega Yacht Marina, which is located in the protected waters provided by the Crescent breakwater along the west shore of the Trunk of The Palm Jumeirah, will also be on display at the show. The first mega yacht marina in the region, planned to open in Dubai in 2009, will have 26 berths for mega yachts up to 100 metres in length, with a further 28 berths ranging from 14 metres to 20 metres. Facilities will include utility systems especially designed to support mega yacht demand, multiple car parking spaces for each berth, at-berth storage, and an exclusive clubhouse.
