Dubai: Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) started on Thursday with a swish as dolphins and sea lions performed for the 800 invited guests and officials at the Dolphinarium in Creek Park.
The dolphin and sea lion show, orchestrated by the well-known French Director, Michael Touito ran for 40 minutes with a three minute three-dimensional snippet for a virtual reality deep seas feel.
The event had an infusion of light and sound effects to enhance the performance of the sea mammals.
While entertaining the audience, the presence of the animals served the purpose of educating on and raising awareness about the marine life.
Ebrahim Saleh, general coordinator of DSF Office, said, "Our show has a message. Conceptualising on the Greener community direction adopted by the Government of Dubai, DSS aims to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the environment and marine life to make our planet a better place for future generations."
Officials said there are various breeds of dolphins in the Gulf waters, and the marine life is picking up in the region. The indoor venue, said to be the only one of its kind, was chosen for its comfort as the seating arrangements are similar to that of a cinema hall.
The eleventh edition of DSS will last for 65 days till August 22 and highlight the change in the entertainment concept through the Tens of Surprises where a new event will be organised every other day.
