Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi will train 130 people for generating various economic indicators for the emirate that will include a modified consumer price index (CPI) to calculate inflation more accurately, officials said at a briefing here on Tuesday Abu Baker A. Al Amoudi, director of statistical administration in Abu Dhabi's Department of Planning and Economy, said the staff training, which began on Monday will continue till July 12, after which "we will go into collecting field data for the next five months".

Focus

The persons collecting the data will focus on seven sectors - industry, construction, wholesale/retail trade, transport, communication and storage, financial intermediation, services and foreign investment.

The surveys will include data generation on water and electricity, construction, real estate, health and education in Abu Dhabi, officials said.

Abu Dhabi will begin calculating price rises based on the new CPI in the fourth quarter of 2008, Butti Ahmad Al Qubaisi, assistant under-secretary for the Department of Planning and Economy, said previously.
