Dubai: The World Economic Forum (WEF) on Tuesday said it has nominated 121 young businessmen as The Young Global Leaders 2008 from 65 countries.
The new class represents all regions, including East Asia (64), Europe (58), Middle East and North Africa (12), North America (45), South Asia (24), sub-Saharan Africa (21) and Latin America (21).
They include Makarem Batterjee, founder and chief executive officer of Shababco Enterprises in Saudi Arabia; Morocco's Merieme Chadid, explorer and astronomer at the Concordia Research Station in Antarctica, France; Wadah Khanfar, director-general of the Al Jazeera Satellite Network, Qatar; Princess Lalla Salma Bennani of Morocco; Khaldoon Al Mubarak, chief executive officer and managing director of the Mubadala Development Company, UAE; and Soraya Salti, senior vice-president, Middle East and North Africa, Injaz Al Arab, JA Worldwide, Jordan.
Drawn from a pool of almost 5,000 candidates, the Young Global Leaders 2008 were chosen by a selection committee of 31 eminent international media leaders. The selection committee was chaired by Queen Rania of Jordan.
