Dubai: Finishing touches and clean-up operations are underway at Atlantis, the $1.5 billion centrepiece of the The Palm Jumeirah, to ensure that its doors open on time this month.
Gulf News spoke with Atlantis officials yesterday during an exclusive tour of The Bridge Suite.
The Bridge Suite was completely unaffected by the fire which broke out just under a week ago.
The only damage done to the lobby roof and dome was superficial and only requires cleaning of the soot and some repainting, officials said.
Local media reported last week that the fire had been caused by an electrical fault, but Atlantis officials said the exact cause has not yet been confirmed by the authorities.
"All indications say it wasn't an electrical fault, but that hasn't been confirmed and we'd hate to speculate," an official said.
Final preparations are well underway throughout the resort, with only some scaffolding to be taken down and furniture to be added to some rooms.
It is not yet known which lucky person will be the first to stay in the Dh92,000-a-night Bridge Suite, but the official said bookings were "healthy".
The Bridge Suite has three bedrooms, a private butler and chef, and a dining room which seats 18 people.
