Berlin: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, yesterday met German business leaders in Berlin.
Shaikh Mohammad called on German investors and medium and small-size companies to boost their presence in various sectors of the UAE economy, which he said offers significantly profitable investment potential.
He also called on Germany's private sector leaders to develop the existing level of the UAE-Germany economic partnership, urging them to tap mutual investments schemes currently on offer in technology, knowledge, higher education and tourism.
Wolfgang Tiefensee, German Minister of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs, hailed Shaikh Mohammad's vision and his keen efforts to build new bridges between the UAE and Germany.
The German Minister said Shaikh Mohammad's current visit is a true demonstration of his far-sighted vision of the future of bilateral relations as well as his efforts to promote them to achieve a significant partnership that Germany looks forward to.
Representatives of Germany's financial, banking, energy and higher education sectors expressed their willingness to invest in the UAE, which they said the German business community regards as a trustworthy country.
They said Berlin, in particular, has special ties with Dubai, which is the world's fastest-growing city.
Speakers also hailed the UAE's investment laws, which they said were attractive to foreign investors.
Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of Economy, stressed that the UAE welcomes investors looking forward to tapping the investment potential in the best interest of both countries.
She elaborated on the UAE's economic growth and volumes of domestic and foreign investment, further highlighting the investment opportunities in the UAE.
Salah Salim Al Shamsi, Chairman of the UAE Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, underscored efforts to find joint investment opportunities for the private sectors of both the UAE and Germany.
Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, UAE Minister of Economy, said relations between the UAE and Germany have developed steadily in the last five years, culminating in enhanced investments in the two countries.
Addressing a gathering of German businessmen in Berlin yesterday, Shaikha Lubna said the corporate world stood to benefit from the enormous opportunities available in the two countries, thanks to the vibrant UAE-Germany ties in recent years.
"The present visit to Germany by His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai and his subsequent participation in the UAE-German Economic Forum , is a major boost to UAE-German relations," said Shaikha Lubna during the meeting, which was attended by Shaikh Mohammad and other officials.
She stressed the need to enhance economic ties between the two countries by developing joint plans with private sector companies. The minister also called for bilateral relations to be widened into such areas as technological infrastructure, scientific research and health.
The UAE minister said the country has adopted a liberal economic policy, one that has created a benign climate for foreign investment.
