Kuwait City: An explosion at a petrochemical facility in Kuwait did not affect oil exports or operations at the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) member's second-largest refinery nearby, an oil official said yesterday.
The explosion was in an industrial area of the Mina Abdullah port, away from the 270,000 barrel per day refinery, the official at the state refining arm KNPC told Reuters.
"The explosion happened outside the refinery in Mina Abdullah, in the industrial area where there are several companies and private factories," the official said. "There was no effect on the refinery installation and exports."
It was not immediately clear what caused the blast and whether anyone was killed or injured.
