Dubai: Despite the recent craze for stylised mobiles such as the iPhone, Dubai-based iMate will continue to focus on phones aimed at businessmen, said Jack Craine, the company's global sales director.
There is "no concern about [the iPhone] at all," Craine said. "It's brought a massive amount of awareness of touch screen technology, but I don't think there is a better operating system than Windows Mobile for touch screen technology."
All of iMate's mobiles use Microsoft's operating system for mobile devices.
Craine said iMate is currently differentiating itself in the market with its design, services and support. He also said that iMate is constantly innovating and bringing the latest technology to the market. "As long was we continue to differentiate, the market will drive the growth," he said.
Craine recently returned from Barcelona, where he attended the Mobile World Congress. The company introduced two phones at the event, the Ultima 9502 and the Ultima 8502, and various packages of web services for the Ultima line. The company also announced that it is partnering with Australian telecom Telstra, who will distribute the new Ultima phones in Australia.
iMate's stock price nearly doubled following the Barcelona announcements, closing at over £30 a share last week. However, the company is still down nearly 60 per cent from a high of over £90 a share in June 2007. The company is listed on the London Stock Exchange.
Craine said the company is also trying to establish itself in certain strategic markets, including South Africa and Europe.
iMate is headquartered in Dubai and holds a sizable share of the converged mobile devices market in the Middle East
