Let's cut to the chase: this site provides Adobe Photoshop Express, easily the best photo editing application for general use, online for free in a Web 2.0 format.

Now, this isn't Photoshop. That industry-leading application will still set you back about Dh2,500, but for those of us who don't need the ability to do colour separations or duotones, the stripped-down, user friendly Express has long given users the ability to edit, crop and colour adjust photos in ways that no one else offers.

User should remember that there may be some colour issues because what you see on the web is not necessarily would you will get out of your printer. User probably shouldn't expect the same results they would get if they were using the desktop version of Photoshop, which attempts to provide some level of color accuracy.

But for someone looking to edit photos for online use, this product is ideal. The site offers the ability to add captions, touch-up blemishes and have fun with your photos like nothing else available on the web.

Interface

Because this is the Web 2.0, the interface also differs from what regular users of the application will recognise. No worries. The web interface still offers an easy to undo changes and makes editing easy.

The site offers 2 GB of storage, so unless you plan to upload every photo from the last family vacation, there is plenty of room. The also allows you to share you photos online, email them to friends, and simply download them.

As far as I can tell, this maybe the first major piece of software to make the jump from the retail shelves to the web. Other websites offer desktop applications for use online, but those are often just pale imitations of the real thing. Microsoft isn't expected to make Word or PowerPoint a free offering anytime soon, but why should they? The only drawback at this time is that the site is still in Beta, which means no supports.
