Abu Dhabi: Economy Minister Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi will lead the UAE delegation to the seventh UAE-Turkey joint committee meeting, to be held in Ankara from February 14 to 16.
The delegation is made up of two representatives from each of the federal and local government authorities, investment and economic institutions, the private sector and including the investment, trade, industry, energy, custom, environment, agriculture, education, culture and transport sectors.
According to the Ministry of Economy's Assistant Undersecretary for Economic Affairs and International Cooperation, Khalid Ganim Al Gaith, the meeting will discuss, among other issues, cooperation in the areas of investment, joint ventures, education, oil and gas, custom, air and sea transport.
Boosting trade
He said the meeting will also discuss investment opportunities and ways to boost trade exchange, integration in the area of food and drinks manufacturing, setting up of businessmen council and sharing of experience in the areas of fish farming.
The meeting reflects the significant economic development between the UAE and Turkey and the wish of the two countries to make maximum use of this development for their mutual interest.
Non-oil trade between the two countries has witnessed a sharp rise in the past few years, rising from Dh1.981 billion in 2002 to Dh7.617 billion in 2006. Export and re-export from UAE to Turkey also shot up from Dh357 million to Dh668 million, while the UAE's imports from Turkey also surged from Dh1.624 to Dh6.949 billion.
The ideal investment climate in the UAE has attracted many Turkish firms to boost their presence on the UAE market, raising the number of Turkish companies registered with the economy ministry to 21, 27 trade agencies and 244 trade marks, mostly operating in the general trade, petroleum services, engineering equipment, transport equipment, medical products, medicine, beauty products and safety equipment sectors.
